51,000 tonnes of imported wheat arrives at Karachi Port
The Karachi Port Trust says a second vessel, MV GREAT RAINBOW, is due on Nov 3 and puts the two ships' combined declared cargo at over 110,000 tonnes.

Around 51,000 metric tonnes of imported wheat arrived at Karachi Port on Wednesday, with the Karachi Port Trust allocating Berths 16 and 17 to the vessel carrying it.
"The geared vessel MV GOKOVA M, carrying a declared manifest of 51,000 metric tonnes of wheat, was allocated Berths 16 and 17 and arrived at Karachi Port at 1225 hours on Oct 28," the trust said in a press release quoted by Dawn.
The KPT said a second geared vessel, MV GREAT RAINBOW, was expected to arrive on Nov 3. The trust put that ship's declared cargo at 599,000 metric tonnes, a figure that does not match its own statement that the two vessels together represent "over 110,000 metric tonnes": roughly the sum of 51,000 tonnes and 59,000 tonnes. The release as carried by Dawn did not explain the discrepancy.
"Together, the two vessels represent a declared wheat cargo volume of over 110,000 metric tonnes," the KPT said.
ProPakistani also reported the arrival of the imported wheat shipment at Karachi Port, without giving further detail on the cargo, its origin or its buyer.
The KPT statement, as published, did not identify the importer of the grain, the country it was shipped from, or the millers or traders due to receive it. It also did not say whether the consignment had been cleared by customs or moved from the port area to storage by Wednesday evening.
Karachi Port is the country's largest seaport and handles the bulk of Pakistan's seaborne grain imports. Wheat is Pakistan's staple food, and imported cargoes are watched by flour millers and traders as well as by officials tracking domestic supply.
Wednesday's arrival was the first of the two shipments the trust described. The second, if it berths as scheduled on Nov 3, would complete the declared volume the KPT cited.
Dawn reported the arrival in a story published on Wednesday afternoon; the full text of the trust's release was not carried in the portion available to this newspaper, and the figures above are those quoted by the outlets that published it.
