ANP calls Quetta multi-party conference over Achakzai arrest
Jamaluddin Rishtya says the charges against the Balochistan ANP president are fabricated and invites parties, lawyers and traders to the November 6 meeting

The Awami National Party will convene a multi-party conference in Quetta on November 6 to decide how to respond to the arrest of its Balochistan president, Asghar Khan Achakzai, its acting provincial president said on Friday.
Jamaluddin Rishtya told a press conference at the Quetta Press Club that the charges against Mr Achakzai were fake, baseless and fabricated. Dawn reported that the party would formally invite all political parties, members of the legal fraternity and traders' associations to the November 6 conference, where it will settle its future course of action.
Dawn's report did not give the date of the arrest and did not name the charge Mr Achakzai faces. It carried no statement from the Balochistan government, the police or any court about the case.
The ANP draws its support mainly from Pashtun-majority districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Mr Achakzai heads the party's Balochistan chapter; Mr Rishtya is its acting president.
The conference falls a week after Friday's press conference at the Quetta Press Club. Dawn's account named no venue in Quetta for the meeting and reported no confirmation of attendance from any party.
Other outlets carrying the story repeated Dawn's account without adding details.
