Korangi woman shot dead; sister, brother-in-law and ex-husband booked
The FIR, lodged on her father's complaint in Karachi, says the 20-year-old had taken a khula and that her family was warned of threats from her former husband.
A 20-year-old woman was shot dead inside her elder sister's house in Gilgit Colony, Sector 48-A, Korangi, in Karachi, and police have registered a murder case against her elder sister, her brother-in-law and her former husband, Express News reported.
The first information report was lodged at Zaman Town police station on the complaint of the woman's father, Abid Shah, and names Alina, her husband Hayat Jakharani and Namrah's former husband, Rafiq Jakharani. UrduPoint, which also carried the case, reported that police had taken the elder sister into custody and were still looking for the other two named accused.
According to the FIR, Namrah was married to Rafiq Jakharani three years ago, in a match arranged by Alina and her husband. She moved to her in-laws' house in Jacobabad, but within a month she and her husband had taken a house near Ghaghar Phatak. Her father told police she complained repeatedly about her husband's behaviour, and that his brother and other male relatives would come into the house in his absence; when she raised it, her husband blamed her instead.
Six or seven months into the marriage, the FIR says, Namrah obtained a khula from a court. Her father alleges that afterwards Rafiq threatened several times to kill her and to kill him.
The complaint states that following the khula Namrah lived with her brother, Abdul Rahim, and at Alina's house. The previous day she was at her sister's home when, around midday, the family was told by telephone that Rafiq had come into Alina's house and shot her.
Her father says he went to Jinnah Hospital, where Alina was present, and that she gave no satisfactory answer, saying only that Rafiq had come to the house and shot Namrah. He suspects Alina and her husband of acting with Rafiq after Namrah refused to live with him again, and says only the family knew she was at Alina's house.
He further alleges that he later learned Alina and Hayat had received Rs250,000 from Rafiq for arranging the marriage.
Police said Alina was in custody and being questioned, while Hayat Jakharani and Rafiq Jakharani are at large and efforts to arrest them are under way.
