Punjab MPA urges reporting after Jannat Mirza AI fake video

Punjab Assembly member Hina Parvez Butt has urged women who are targeted by AI-generated fake videos to save the evidence and report it to cybercrime authorities, after TikTok creator Jannat Mirza said a fabricated clip using her face had circulated online. Butt, of the PML-N, called the clip a warning against the misuse of technology and said using a woman's image without permission is unacceptable.

Mirza, who has more than 25 million followers on TikTok according to Minute Mirror, said on Instagram Stories that an AI-generated video showed her alongside an unidentified man, with the song "Achhi Lagti Ho" in the background. She said she did not find the video amusing and warned that a woman's reputation and dignity could be put at risk. "Today, my face has been used, but tomorrow, it could be any girl whose dignity and honour are put at risk," she said.

Mirza noted that as a social media personality she could publicly deny the clip, but women who are not online might never know their images were being misused. She called for action against those who create or share such material without consent.

On X, Butt wrote that the fake video had highlighted a serious issue. "Technology is for progress and convenience, not for violating anyone's honour, dignity, and privacy. Using women's images or faces without permission is unacceptable," she posted. She added: "No compromise on the honour and protection of women!" Butt also said digital rights violations were a crime if a woman's face was used without her consent.

The MPA advised victims to take a screenshot of the material or save the link immediately and not to pass the video on. She said women should report the content to the relevant cybercrime authorities, and women in Punjab could contact the Punjab Women Protection Authority helpline.

The incident has renewed attention on the risks of AI-manipulated content as such tools become easier to use, particularly for women whose images are used without consent.
