Punjab recalls four medicine batches over quality concerns

A recall alert issued by Punjab health authorities covers four medicine batches after provincial drug testing laboratories found one syrup substandard and three tablet products adulterated. The affected products are DryGlit syrup, Trezine tablets, Zinad tablets and Bemin tablets.

The official notice states that DryGlit 120mL syrup failed quality checks because its ethylene glycol content exceeded permissible limits. The recall covers two batches of the syrup, S13326 and S13426, both with an expiry date of June 2028.

The other three products were classified as adulterated. Trezine tablets, sold with Cetirizine 10mg, are being recalled in batch number 307, which expires in April 2027. Zinad tablets, containing Tizanidine 2mg, are affected in batch 5F001, expiring in June 2028. Bemin tablets, which contain Mecobalamin 500mcg, are affected in batch 093, expiring in September 2027.

Pharmacies, wholesalers, distributors and healthcare facilities have been instructed to stop dispensing the identified batches immediately. They must report their remaining stocks and consumption records to the relevant drug inspectors. The notice also directs manufacturers and market authorisation holders to initiate recalls and submit a recall assessment, a root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action plans.

Provincial authorities have called for enhanced surveillance across the medicine supply chain to ensure the affected batches can be traced from manufacturer to patient. The government has separately advised consumers and patients to stop using the listed batches immediately, saying they may pose a risk to health.

ProPakistani and ARY News both reported the recall on 24 September, citing the provincial notice. The notice did not state how many units are covered by the recall or whether any adverse events had been linked to the affected batches. The recall applies only to the listed batch numbers; other batches of the same brands have not been flagged.
