SIUT opens three-day global workshop on paediatric surgery
Surgeons from the United States, Italy and the United Kingdom join Pakistani specialists in Karachi to discuss congenital urinary disorders in infants.

KARACHI: The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) opened a three-day international workshop on paediatric surgery in Karachi on September 23, bringing together surgeons from the United States, Italy and the United Kingdom to discuss congenital urinary disorders commonly found among male infants in developing countries.
According to a press release from SIUT's paediatric department, the workshop will focus on hypospadias, a congenital condition where the opening of the urethra is not at the tip of the penis. Among the visiting experts are Dr Warren T. Snodgrass and Dr Nicol C. Bush from the United States, Dr Gianantonio Manzoni from Italy, and Dr Philip G. Ransley from the United Kingdom.
The press release stated that Snodgrass and Bush are pioneers who revolutionised surgical treatment for hypospadias with successful short-term and long-term outcomes. Dr Sajid Sultan of SIUT, who worked closely with Manzoni, introduced these surgical techniques for infants in Pakistan, the press release added.
The workshop will demonstrate and discuss a wide range of cases reported at SIUT's Children's Hospital. More than 400 surgeons from across Pakistan are expected to attend, with the aim of advancing care for children with hypospadias in Pakistan and other parts of Asia.
SIUT is a major public-sector hospital in Karachi specialising in urology and transplantation, and has long been a centre for training surgeons from across the country.
