5G mobile services are now live in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, technology news outlet TechJuice reported on 19 September. The report, headlined '5G Is Live in AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, 20 More Sites on the Way', said an additional 20 sites are planned for the two regions.

TechJuice did not provide further details in the material available to this desk, including which telecom operator has activated the network, the towns and districts covered in the initial phase, or a timeline for the 20 additional sites. The outlet's full report could not be retrieved.

The report did not say whether the 20 additional sites are new towers or upgrades to existing 4G infrastructure. It also did not state which spectrum band has been deployed or what speeds users can expect.

The rollout is significant for Gilgit-Baltistan, where mountainous terrain and scattered settlements have made mobile coverage difficult. The region is a priority coverage area for Skardu Times.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have historically waited longer than the large urban centres of Punjab and Sindh for new mobile generations. A 5G launch in these areas would mark a step toward narrowing that gap.

The federal government has previously said it aims to expand 5G across the country, though no specific policy announcement was referenced in the TechJuice report. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has not commented on the claim.

TechJuice is a Pakistani technology news platform that covers telecom, startups and digital policy. Its report was published on 19 September 2026.

Skardu Times will update this story if further details about the rollout become available.
