Gilgit-Baltistan marks 80th Independence Day with Gilgit ceremony
Radio Pakistan says the main event will be held at the Army Helipad in Gilgit, with tributes to those it calls heroes of the 1947 liberation struggle.

Gilgit-Baltistan marks its 80th Independence Day on Sunday, with the main ceremony at the Army Helipad in Gilgit, Radio Pakistan reported. The region observes the anniversary every 1 November.
The state broadcaster said the Gilgit ceremony would include celebrations and tributes to the people it described as heroes of the region's liberation struggle.
Radio Pakistan dated the events to November 1947, when, according to its account, leaders of the freedom movement and residents of Gilgit-Baltistan ended Dogra rule in the region and joined Pakistan without conditions. The 80th anniversary falls 79 years after that accession.
The report did not give a start time for the Gilgit ceremony, name the officials and political leaders expected to attend, or identify the organisers.
It also carried no district-level programme for the rest of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Skardu and the other Baltistan districts, Diamer, Astore and Ghizer.
Radio Pakistan published the report early on Saturday, a day before the anniversary, and said the day would be marked with traditional celebrations.
No other outlet had published details of the programme when this report was filed.
