Cuba detains 14ymedio founder Yoani Sanchez in Havana
Her husband Reinaldo Escobar, speaking from Madrid, announced the detention on social media; she is the third independent journalist held in the capital this week.

Cuban State Security agents detained Yoani Sanchez, the founder and director of the independent news outlet 14ymedio, in Havana on Thursday morning, according to the South China Morning Post. The paper reported that it was the third detention of an independent journalist in the Cuban capital that week.
Reinaldo Escobar, Sanchez's husband, announced the detention while he was in Madrid. "Yoani Sanchez has been detained by State Security today in Havana," he wrote on social media, in the account carried by the Post.
The Post reported the detention as part of the latest crackdown by the Cuban government on independent journalists. The report did not say where in the capital Sanchez was being held, whether a charge had been filed against her, or whether she had been given access to a lawyer.
The Post did not name the two other journalists detained in Havana that week, and did not say whether they remained in custody.
Sanchez is an award-winning journalist and heads 14ymedio, an independent Cuban news outlet she founded. The Post's report did not say what she was doing when agents detained her, nor whether the outlet's offices had been visited.
Cuban authorities had not issued a public statement on the detention in the accounts available. The Post's article was published on Thursday, the day of the detention, and gave no further details of the legal basis for holding her.
