GB police foil terrorist attack on Diamer-Ghizer checkpost

Dawn reports the attack was stopped, but no details have been released on attackers, casualties or weapons

Gilgit-Baltistan police foiled a terrorist attack on a checkpost located between Diamer and Ghizer districts, Dawn reported on September 20. The newspaper attributed the information to police but gave no details about how the attack was stopped.

The report did not say how many attackers were involved, whether any police officer or civilian was injured, or what weapons were used. Dawn's headline was brief: “GB police foil terrorist attack on checkpost between Diamer, Ghizer districts.” A standfirst repeated the same words.

Ua.News also carried the story, with a headline that said, “Police say attack on checkpoint in Pakistan was foiled: Dawn.” That version likewise offered no additional details about the method, timing, or suspected group behind the attempt.

The checkpost sits in an area that separates Diamer and Ghizer, two districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. Checkposts along roads in the region are staffed by police and other security personnel, but Dawn did not specify which agency was manning this post at the time.

Officials from the Gilgit-Baltistan police and the district administrations of Diamer and Ghizer had not issued separate statements by the time this report was filed. Skardu Times could not independently confirm the account beyond the reports published by Dawn and Ua.News.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack, and there was no immediate word on whether the attackers were killed, captured, or escaped. The Diamer-Ghizer boundary lies along roads that connect the northern districts with the rest of Gilgit-Baltistan. This is a developing story and will be updated as further information is released.
