Islamabad carries out first robotic gallbladder surgery by telesurgery
The Associated Press of Pakistan called it a first for the capital while UrduPoint billed it as Pakistan's first, and neither named the hospital, surgeons or patient

Islamabad has carried out a robotic gallbladder removal in which the operating surgeon worked through a telesurgery link, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported, describing the operation as the capital's first robotic cholecystectomy performed this way.
UrduPoint reported the same procedure as Pakistan's first robotic gallbladder surgery conducted through telesurgery. The two accounts differ over whether the first belongs to Islamabad or to the country as a whole.
Neither report named the hospital where the operation took place, the surgeons involved, the patient or the date. Neither gave the patient's condition after surgery, and neither said where the operating surgeon was physically standing while the procedure was carried out.
A cholecystectomy is the surgical removal of the gallbladder. Telesurgery links a surgeon to robotic instruments at a distance, allowing an operator to work at a site where that specialist is not present in person.
The Associated Press of Pakistan described the operation as a development in the use of robotic technology and real-time connectivity in Pakistan's health sector.
The reports did not say which robotic system was used, how the data link between surgeon and patient was set up, or whether a separate team stood by at the patient's side during the operation.
Neither outlet said whether the procedure was independently reviewed, what it cost, or whether further telesurgery operations are planned.
