Lahore student runs 1,100 km to Skardu in 21 days
Both outlets report he is a Government College University Lahore student, but neither has named him.
Two Pakistani news outlets reported on Saturday that a Government College University Lahore student has completed a 1,100-kilometre run from Lahore to Skardu in 21 days. Samaa carried the duration in its headline, while 24 News HD said the student celebrated the finish by carrying the national flag.
Neither outlet named the runner. Samaa identified him only as a GCU student, and 24 News HD called him a student from Lahore. Skardu Times could not independently confirm the runner's identity or the exact start and finish dates. Neither report carried a statement from the university or district administration.
The two accounts agree on the distance and the finish point but differ in emphasis. Samaa led with the 21-day duration, while 24 News HD led with the 1,100-kilometre distance and the national flag. The outlets did not say whether the student ran continuously or in stages.
The road distance from Lahore to Skardu is about 1,100 kilometres by the most common route, which runs north through Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before entering Gilgit-Baltistan. That route crosses three provincial and territorial jurisdictions: Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. The final stretch climbs into Baltistan division, where Skardu sits at roughly 2,200 metres above sea level. At that distance, a 21-day crossing implies an average of more than 52 kilometres per day.
Skardu, the district headquarters of Baltistan division, is the main town for expeditions to K2, Broad Peak and the Baltoro Glacier. Long-distance runs ending in Gilgit-Baltistan remain uncommon, and a Lahore-to-Skardu run of this length is a significant endurance effort. The reports did not say whether the student was raising funds or awareness for a cause, or whether he had a support crew.
Skardu Times has contacted Samaa and 24 News HD for the runner's name and the start and finish dates and will update this story when further details are available. No official confirmation was immediately available.
