Pak Datacom expands satellite bandwidth eightfold in a year
The company now connects about 550 government, financial and corporate institutions as demand for high-capacity connectivity grows.

ISLAMABAD: Pak Datacom Limited has increased its satellite bandwidth use eightfold in a single year, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Thursday. The company now supplies satellite connectivity to around 550 major government, financial and corporate institutions, according to a company spokesman quoted by the news agency.
The spokesman said demand for reliable, high-capacity connectivity across Pakistan had accelerated the modernisation of the company's satellite network. The work includes High-Throughput Satellite technology, additional bandwidth and the use of multiple satellites.
APP did not disclose the baseline figure behind the eightfold increase or the total bandwidth now in use. It also did not name the institutions that rely on the service, nor did it give financial details of the network upgrade. Pak Datacom is a data communication service provider; satellite links are used by banks, government departments and businesses in places where terrestrial fibre or microwave connections are unavailable or unreliable.
The agency's headline referred to connectivity "from World's highest ATM to national institutions," but the body of the report did not identify that ATM or say where it is located.
The announcement comes as service providers and regulators in Pakistan work to extend internet and satellite coverage, particularly outside major cities. In many districts, satellite remains the only way to keep bank branches and government offices online.
