Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for China's Global Development Initiative, Arab News PK reported on Friday.

The outlet carried a brief item with the headline "Pakistan reaffirms support for China's Global Development Initiative" and the same line as its standfirst. No further details were available in the syndicated feed about who made the reaffirmation, what venue it came from, or whether any new commitments were announced.

The Global Development Initiative is a framework proposed by Beijing to coordinate development cooperation with partner countries. It was put forward at the United Nations General Assembly in 2021, according to Chinese state media, and calls for attention to poverty reduction, food security, industrialisation and digital connectivity.

Pakistan has previously expressed support for the initiative in joint statements with China, and it remains a key partner in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, the flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Arab News PK report did not quote any Pakistani or Chinese official by name, and Skardu Times could not independently confirm the reaffirmation beyond that report.

The report was filed at 11:26 GMT on Friday, according to its metadata. Pakistan's Foreign Office has not yet issued a separate statement on its website about the reaffirmation.

The Global Development Initiative sits alongside the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative as part of China's foreign-policy framework under President Xi Jinping. It aims to accelerate implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Friday's item did not say whether the reaffirmation was made by a Pakistani minister, a diplomat or a spokesperson, and no official text was attached.
