Pakistan to host multiple international hockey events

Pakistan is set to host a series of international hockey events over the next six months, with teams from Asia, Europe and North America expected to tour the country. The announcement was made by Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Wani said the Chinese hockey team is scheduled to visit Pakistan in November 2026, following a tour by Korea. Canada is also expected to tour Pakistan after the Chinese team completes its visit. Three European teams have expressed readiness to travel to Pakistan for hockey activities, Wani added. However, the sources did not identify the European teams or give exact dates for their visits.

The PHF president said the arrival of international teams would help promote hockey and revive international sporting activity in Pakistan, which has seen limited foreign tours in recent years. "Regular international matches could create greater opportunities for players and support the sport's revival," he said, according to Daily Times.

Looking further ahead, Wani revealed that Pakistan is planning to host a 10-nation international hockey event in December next year. A domestic hockey league is also planned for the same year. These initiatives are aimed at providing more competitive opportunities for local players and developing the sport nationally, he said. Wani did not specify the participating countries for the 10-nation event.

Wani also addressed Pakistan's participation in the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, which is currently scheduled to be held in India. He said the decision to move the tournament from India to a neutral venue rests with the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF). The PHF has already submitted a formal request to shift the tournament, but the continental body has not yet communicated a decision.

"We understand the rules and regulations that have to be followed in this matter, but we have made our position clear," Wani said. He added that Pakistan's national honour and dignity remain the federation's top priority in dealing with international hockey matters. The PHF will continue to engage with international hockey authorities on the issue, according to the reports.
