Quetta opens first research centre for deaf children

A centre for hearing-impaired children has been opened in Quetta, the first of its kind in Balochistan, Express News reported. The Deaf Children Excellence and Research Centre has been set up with cooperation between the federal and provincial governments and was formally inaugurated by Federal Culture Minister Aurangzeb.

Around 350 boys and girls are currently enrolled at the centre, according to the report. The children are receiving education from primary to secondary level, along with modern technical training. Girls are also being taught sewing and embroidery so that they can become self-sufficient.

Express News described the establishment of the centre as a significant step for the education, skills and welfare of special children in the province. The outlet called the project revolutionary in its headline, but the report did not elaborate on the centre's budget, management structure or whether similar facilities would be opened elsewhere in Balochistan.

The inauguration was reported by Express News. The federal and provincial cooperation behind the centre suggests a coordinated effort to address the needs of hearing-impaired children, but no further details about the agencies involved were immediately available.
