Three injured as vehicle overturns on Karakoram Highway
Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to Bisham hospital after the crash brought down 11,000-volt wires.
Three people were injured on Wednesday when a vehicle hit an electricity pole and overturned on the Karakoram Highway in the Maira area of Bisham tehsil, Shangla district, according to Rescue 1122.
Rescue 1122 Shangla said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which struck the pole before overturning on the road. The accident was reported to the rescue service, and a medical team was dispatched to the site from the nearest station.
The team provided first aid to the three injured people and then shifted them to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham, for further treatment, the rescue service said. The injured were conscious when they were taken to the hospital, officials added.
The Nation reported that the collision damaged the electricity pole and caused a nearby shop to collapse. The impact also brought down 11,000-volt electricity wires onto the main road, creating a hazard for motorists and pedestrians using the highway.
Rescue personnel took immediate safety measures at the scene and contacted the relevant electricity authorities. The power supply was disconnected so that the fallen wires did not endanger anyone, the rescue service said.
Once the area was secured, rescue workers cleared the road and restored the flow of traffic on the Karakoram Highway.
Rescue 1122 officials said all three injured people were in stable condition and had sustained minor injuries. No deaths were reported in the statement, and no further details about the vehicle or the identities of the injured were immediately available.
The Karakoram Highway is a major route through Shangla district and connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan and China beyond. Accidents on the highway are routinely reported to Rescue 1122, which maintains stations in Shangla and other districts along the route.
