Bomb disposal official killed in South Waziristan IED blast
Abdul Jabbar had defused one device in the Janta area of Sararogha tehsil when a second exploded; police have sent the case to the CTD for an FIR.

A police bomb disposal official was killed in Upper South Waziristan on Saturday when an improvised explosive device went off during a clearance operation in the Janta area of Sararogha tehsil, police said.
Abdul Jabbar, an assistant in charge of the district bomb disposal unit, was critically injured in the blast and died of his wounds, District Police Officer Ashfaq Khan told The Express Tribune.
According to the DPO, Jabbar had already defused one device planted in the area. A second explosive went off as he attempted to neutralise it and caused the fatal injuries.
Police suspect the second device was planted specifically to target the bomb disposal squad. Investigators were still examining the circumstances of the explosion to establish its exact nature, the DPO said.
The Sararogha station house officer reached the site with a police contingent after the blast. The team inspected the area, collected evidence and started an investigation.
DPO Khan said the incident was first recorded in the police station's daily diary. The case was then referred to the Counter-Terrorism Department for the registration of a first information report and further legal action.
Minute Mirror reported that the death comes amid a continuing rise in militant attacks across Upper and Lower South Waziristan over the past two years, in which police personnel, security forces and civilians have increasingly been targeted. The frequency of the attacks has deepened concern over the security situation in the two districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it reported.
Minute Mirror also noted that bomb disposal personnel routinely risk their lives to locate and neutralise explosives planted by militants, and that the work puts them closest to the devices.
The Express Tribune carried the same death in Upper South Waziristan in its report.
