Security forces killed four militants in an intelligence-based operation in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said on Saturday, with clearance work still under way in the area.

Geo News reported that the sources described the four as India-backed members of the group the security establishment calls Fitna al-Khawarij, the term official statements use for the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. The sources said the raid was part of the Azm-e-Istehkam campaign, which they presented as the framework for eliminating militancy and restoring lasting peace in the province.

A large cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the dead, the sources said. Clearance operations were continuing to remove any other militants who might be present in the area.

The account did not name the four, give the time of the operation, identify the unit that carried it out, or report any losses among security personnel or civilians. Geo News did not say whether the operation itself had ended.

Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in cross-border militant incidents since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in 2021, concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to the outlet. It reported that September 2026 recorded the highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years. The report did not give the number of attacks recorded that month.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to stop armed groups using Afghan territory for attacks inside Pakistan, and says the Taliban government has failed to act effectively against those responsible for strikes on security forces and civilians. Several rounds of talks have not settled the dispute, which remains a central point of friction between the two governments.
