Bushra Bibi asks Islamabad High Court for eye treatment of her choice
Her counsel's affidavit says she could not open her eyes without dark glasses at Adiala Jail and that doctors diagnosed a mature cataract needing surgery around November 15.

Bushra Bibi, wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, has asked the Islamabad High Court to order her immediate examination by an eye specialist and to let her be treated by doctors of her choice at her own expense, saying her eyesight is deteriorating quickly.
The application was filed in the £190 million corruption case, in which she is serving a seven-year sentence. In December 2025 she was also sentenced to 17 years in the Toshakhana-2 case, which concerned the purchase of a jewellery set given to Imran Khan by the Saudi crown prince.
Her counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, submitted an affidavit in the same case on Saturday about his meeting with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail earlier this week, their first in several months. Jail authorities told him on October 31 that the meeting was fixed for 3:30pm on November 2, according to the affidavit. It began at 4pm and lasted about 40 minutes.
Safdar stated that Bushra Bibi wore unusually dark glasses to the meeting and that when she removed them at his request and at Imran Khan's, she appeared to be in severe distress. She told them she could bear neither sunlight nor artificial light and could not open her eyes without the glasses, he stated. Safdar said he felt her eyesight had been badly affected and that Imran Khan was visibly worried about it.
According to the affidavit, Bushra Bibi said the doctors who examined her had diagnosed a mature cataract and had told her another operation would be needed around November 15. She also complained about cleanliness in the jail and about the treatment she was receiving, and asked that her examination and treatment be carried out by her own doctors.
The application asks the court to direct Adiala jail authorities to obtain a comprehensive medical report on her and to produce her complete medical record in court, including details of her diagnosis and treatment. It seeks an immediate examination by an eye specialist and immediate consultation with the jail medical officer, and permission for treatment by a specialist of her choice at her own cost. It states that her eye condition is worsening rapidly and that immediate steps are needed to save her sight. It was filed through Safdar and the lawyer Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry.
Safdar last met Imran Khan on April 9, after the IHC allowed him to discuss the proceedings of the £190 million case with him. That meeting lasted 60 minutes and he was not allowed to meet Bushra Bibi. On August 18 the Supreme Court ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within two days for medical examination and treatment. On August 20 he was taken instead to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, declared medically fit and returned to Adiala Jail.
How the reports differ
Dawn led with the petition itself, reporting that Bushra Bibi wants an immediate examination by an ophthalmologist and treatment from doctors of her choice at her own expense, and noted her seven-year sentence in the £190 million case and her 17-year sentence in the Toshakhana-2 case in December 2025. The Express Tribune led with Barrister Salman Safdar's affidavit, quoting him that her eyes were in an "extremely vulnerable condition", and alone reported the details of the meeting (fixed on October 31 for 3:30pm on November 2, starting at 4pm and lasting about 40 minutes), her account of a mature cataract diagnosis with another operation due around November 15, and the accompanying request for her full medical record. The Express Tribune also named Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry as co-counsel on the application.
