CDA to launch rural Islamabad waste collection next month
The Capital Development Authority has accepted a Turkish company's bid, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is expected to inaugurate the first phase on October 13.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has accepted a bid from a Turkish company to run a new waste collection and cleanliness system in Islamabad, with the first phase covering the city's rural areas, Dawn reported. The CDA is the civic agency responsible for municipal services in the federal capital.
The project is expected to be formally inaugurated by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on October 13, according to the report. The CDA has issued a letter of acceptance to the company, which the report identified as the Joint Venture of Atlas Pak Waste Management Company.
On Tuesday, CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, Member Environment Abdullah Khurram Niazi and representatives of the Turkish company met at CDA headquarters to discuss preparations for the launch. The meeting followed the issuance of the letter of acceptance, the report said.
Dawn's report did not say which rural areas would be covered in the first phase, how many households would be included, or when full operations would begin beyond the October inauguration date. The report also did not include the contract's value, its duration, or the number of vehicles and workers the company would deploy.
It was not clear from the report whether the new system would introduce charges for residents or replace existing municipal cleaning arrangements. The news aggregator Ua.News also carried the story, citing Dawn.
Skardu Times could not independently verify the details of the contract or the inauguration schedule. The CDA has not made a separate public announcement in the material reviewed by Skardu Times.
