Customs seizes 6.162 kg gold in Balochistan smuggling bid
The contraband, worth about Rs25 crore, was intercepted at Shela Bagh with Frontier Corps assistance on 21 September, officials said.
Pakistan Customs said its Quetta enforcement collectorate foiled a gold smuggling attempt in Balochistan and seized 6.162 kilograms of gold biscuits with an estimated value of Rs25 crore.
The operation took place on 21 September at the Field Enforcement Unit at Shela Bagh, where customs officers worked with the Frontier Corps after receiving intelligence, according to Express News.
The collectorate said in a statement that the seizure was made during ongoing intelligence-based anti-smuggling operations on major highways, field enforcement units, entry and exit routes, and other sensitive routes in Balochistan. It credited close coordination between Pakistan Customs and the Frontier Corps for the timely detection and seizure of the smuggled gold.
Officials said the gold had been deposited at the State Warehouse in Quetta under standard legal procedure, and a first information report had been registered. Further legal action is under way.
The collectorate said strict action would be taken against those involved in smuggling under existing law to prevent cross-border smuggling, protect legal trade and safeguard government revenue.
