KPRA team visits Mardan hospitals, seeks financial data

An enforcement team from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority, Mardan and Malakand Region, visited multiple registered private hospitals and healthcare centres in District Mardan and directed them to submit their financial data, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported on Thursday.

The state-run news agency said the team carried out the visits as part of the authority's enforcement work, but did not name the institutions it visited or say how many healthcare facilities were covered by the exercise. No deadline for submitting the records was mentioned in the report.

KPRA is the provincial body responsible for collecting sales tax on services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Registered private hospitals and healthcare centres are required to maintain financial documentation and provide it to enforcement staff when requested.

The APP dispatch did not include any statement from the hospital administrations or from KPRA officials. It did not explain what specific documents were being sought or whether any particular compliance issue had prompted the visit.

The report said the enforcement team asked the facilities to submit their financial data, but it did not clarify what action would follow if the hospitals failed to comply. KPRA has not issued a separate public statement about the Mardan visits.

The visit is part of routine enforcement activity by the provincial revenue authority, which has been working to bring more service providers into the documented tax net. Healthcare is one sector where tax officials have sought more complete financial records.

Such field visits are carried out periodically to check that registered businesses are deducting and depositing the sales tax on services as required under provincial tax law. The APP report did not provide the number of hospitals registered in Mardan district or the number visited. It also did not mention whether any penalty or legal action was discussed during the visits.

The newspaper will update this story when more details are available.
