Talal Chaudhry unveils Islamabad security, water and police plan
State Minister for Interior says city will get cameras, three dams and 10,000 merit-based police hires.

State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced at a convention in Islamabad that the capital will be placed under complete camera surveillance and that three dams will be built in the next three to four years to address the city's water shortage.
Chaudhry said 70 percent of the Islamabad police force is above 55 years of age and announced recruitment of 10,000 new personnel. He asserted no appointments will be made without merit.
The minister said Pakistan is facing a 50 percent water shortage, and the three planned dams would be completed within three to four years. He said the capital lacks an effective waste collection system and that an international-standard system will be introduced for garbage disposal.
Chaudhry told the gathering that land worth Rs1,100 billion had been recovered in Islamabad. He also said the number of people travelling daily on the Metro Bus Service is higher than the number of votes Islamabad receives, and alleged that a provincial government has been sending 1122 vehicles and ambulances towards the federation.
The minister called for an end to negative politics and urged voters to choose candidates on the basis of performance, saying the situation can improve only if people cast their votes while keeping Allah in mind. He told voters to stop deciding on the basis of caste, vehicle or appearance, comparing the selection to how businesspeople scrutinise managers before handing over their businesses.
Referring to Islamabad's administrative system, he said the capital deserves its own system and noted that every fault found in a disconnected city is also present in Islamabad.
