CDA clears 36.5 acres of encroached land in Islamabad's I-15
The cleared land opens the way for 500 plots in the sector, according to reports by APP and the Islamabad Post.
The Capital Development Authority has cleared encroachments from 36.5 acres of land in Islamabad's I-15 sector, a move the state news agency APP and the Islamabad Post reported will open the way for 500 plots.
Both outlets carried the same figures, 36.5 acres cleared and 500 plots to follow, in their reports on the operation. Neither report, as available to this newspaper, named the date the operation was carried out, the officials who supervised it, or the number of structures removed.
The CDA is the body responsible for planning and developing the federal capital and for removing illegal occupation from state land, a task it carries out periodically across the city's sectors. Published reports did not say what kind of encroachments were removed in I-15, whether they were residential, commercial or agricultural, or whether any notices were issued to occupants before the clearance.
Land in the capital's newer sectors has repeatedly been the subject of disputes between the authority and people who say they hold allotments or have lived on the land for years. The reports did not address whether anyone displaced by the I-15 operation has been offered alternative accommodation or compensation, and did not say whether any of those affected have contested the clearance.
The disposal of plots in undeveloped sectors is also a revenue measure for the authority, which has in the past raised money by auctioning commercial and residential plots. The reports did not say when the 500 plots in I-15 would be offered to the public, how they would be allotted, or what price they would carry.
This newspaper could not independently confirm the details of the operation beyond the accounts published by APP and the Islamabad Post. CDA officials could not be reached for comment on the record at the time of filing, and no formal statement setting out the sequence of the operation or the legal basis for it was available.
I-15 lies among the capital's newer sectors, where development has lagged behind the older, fully serviced parts of the city and where the authority has been under pressure to bring land into use.
