The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has raised the electricity tariff by Rs 2.36 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment for September 2026. Consumers will pay the extra charge in their November bills.

NEPRA issued a formal notification for the increase, Aaj News reported on Saturday. The notification describes the charge as covering the change in fuel costs during September, and Aaj News reported the higher rate took effect for consumers across the country once the notification was issued.

The increase applies to customers of every power distribution company in the country, including K-Electric in Karachi.

Aaj News reported that the addition would put a burden of crores of rupees on consumers, and its headline told readers to prepare for heavy bills in November.

UrduPoint carried the same figure of Rs 2.36 per unit and described the increase as a September fuel cost adjustment.

Fuel cost adjustments are recovered separately from the base tariff. NEPRA, the federal regulator, reviews the fuel component of generation cost every month and passes the difference to consumers through their bills.

The notification as reported did not give a per-household estimate of the extra amount.

How the reports differ

Aaj News carried the notification itself, named K-Electric's customers among those affected, said the charge would appear in November bills and reported a burden of crores of rupees. UrduPoint's report carried the Rs 2.36 per unit figure and the September fuel cost link without those details.
