Pakistan overtakes Vietnam to take third place in rice exports
Express News put September shipments at 420,000 tonnes against Vietnam's 337,000 tonnes, with export volume up 51 percent in the July to September quarter.

Pakistan exported 420,000 tonnes of rice in September 2026, overtaking Vietnam to become the world's third-largest rice exporter for the month, Express News reported. Vietnam shipped 337,000 tonnes in the same month, according to the outlet.
Express News described September's performance as historic. It reported that Pakistan's rice export volume rose 51 percent in the first quarter of the fiscal year, July to September 2026, and that foreign exchange earned from rice shipments rose 37 percent over the same quarter.
UrduPoint reported the same September figure of 420,000 tonnes and said exports rose significantly despite tension in the Gulf region.
Demand for Pakistani basmati held in the international market, Express News reported, despite friction between the United States and Iran and disruption to shipping routes in the Gulf. UrduPoint also set the increase against the same Gulf tension.
No breakdown between basmati and non-basmati was given. On the two quarterly figures reported, export volumes grew faster than the foreign exchange they earned.
Neither report named the body that compiled the trade figures. Neither quoted a government department or an association of rice exporters, and neither gave the dollar value of September's shipments.
Neither report made clear whether third place rests on September's monthly volumes alone or on a cumulative basis, and no quarter or full-year totals were given for either country.
Pakistan's fiscal year runs from July to June, so the quarter covered by the growth figures ended on 30 September 2026.
How the reports differ
Both outlets put Pakistan's September shipments at 420,000 tonnes. Express News carried Vietnam's figure of 337,000 tonnes and the quarterly growth rates of 51 percent by volume and 37 percent in earnings, and described the month as a historic performance. UrduPoint led on exports rising despite tension in the Gulf region and called the gain significant.
