Pakistan widens export credit through EXIM Bank, minister tells OIC
Jam Kamal Khan says trade credit insurance, guarantees and refinancing are on offer to exporters, and Islamic financing instruments are being expanded, at a session in Istanbul.

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan said on Tuesday that Pakistan is operationalising its Export-Import Bank, moving export credit processing online and expanding concessional lending, to widen exporters' access to credit and strengthen their position in international markets.
He was speaking at the 42nd session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, chaired by Türkiye's Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, TechJuice reported. No figures for the enlarged facilities, or a timetable for the bank's full rollout, were given.
The Export-Import Bank of Pakistan now offers trade credit insurance, guarantees and refinancing facilities, Jam Kamal said, aimed at protecting exporters and supporting their expansion into international markets, including OIC countries.
He said Pakistan is also expanding Shariah-compliant financing instruments, including Murabaha, Salam and Ijarah, to give businesses alternatives consistent with Islamic principles.
Export credit processes are being digitalised through integrated online portals linking commercial banks with development finance institutions, according to the minister. The portals would cut processing times and improve financing access for micro, small and medium enterprises, he said, and concessional financing facilities for exporters have been substantially enhanced.
Speaking to this year's session theme, "Developing Effective Trade Financing Tools for Increasing Exports in the OIC Member Countries", Jam Kamal said affordable and innovative financing was needed, particularly for small and medium enterprises.
He said deeper trade integration with OIC member states could create opportunities for shared prosperity, and reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to stronger economic and commercial partnerships within the bloc.
Pakistan hosts the headquarters of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), which connects the private sectors of 57 Islamic countries. Jam Kamal said Pakistan would continue to support the ICCD as a link between businesses and policymakers to promote investment and commercial partnerships.
He also called for closer cooperation among member states on digital integration, artificial intelligence and sustainable development, saying technological advances offer OIC countries the chance to modernise their economies and improve trade competitiveness and regional connectivity.
He appreciated COMCEC's role in promoting multilateral economic cooperation and in developing practical solutions to trade problems faced by Islamic countries.
How the reports differ
TechJuice led with the minister's financing announcements, naming the EXIM Bank's trade credit insurance, guarantees and refinancing, the three Islamic instruments, and the online portals linking commercial banks with development finance institutions. Pakistan Observer carried the item under the headline "The climate dividend of digital exports", which frames digital exports around climate rather than the financing measures Jam Kamal described, and it did not set out the bank, instrument or portal details that TechJuice reported.
