Pakistan's total external debt rose to $135.107 billion in 2025 from $68.673 billion in 2015, almost doubling over the decade, according to the World Bank's International Debt Report 2026.

Of the total, public and publicly guaranteed debt accounted for $107.076 billion, while private non-guaranteed debt stood at $17.58 billion, Dawn reported from Islamabad, citing the report.

China remains Pakistan's largest single creditor, the report said.

The bank's global figures in the same report put developing economies' external debt at a record $9.4 trillion.

The report tracks the external obligations of developing countries to official and private creditors, comparing the debt stock at the start and end of the decade ending in 2025.

Pakistan's figure of $135.107 billion against the 2015 level of $68.673 billion amounts to an increase of $66.434 billion over the ten years.

Dawn published the Pakistan numbers from the World Bank's International Debt Report 2026 under the heading that the country's external debt had nearly doubled in a decade.
