Three people were killed and two others abducted when unidentified gunmen opened fire in Balochistan's Killa Abdullah district, an attack that led relatives and residents to lay the bodies on the main road and stop traffic on the Quetta-Chaman highway.

Daily Times reported that the assailants fired on the victims and fled with two of them. Police contingents reached the site, secured the area and began collecting evidence, and security forces started a search operation in the surrounding areas for the attackers.

The killings brought the district to a halt. Grieving families and local residents placed the bodies on the main road and refused to let vehicles pass, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible. The blockade suspended transport on the Quetta-Chaman highway, a key transit route, and left passenger buses and cargo trucks stranded on both sides. Rediff reported that the killings sparked tribal protests.

District administration officials went to the protest site to negotiate with community leaders and clear the road. Talks with the victims' families continued into the evening, with officials urging the protesters to reopen the highway.

The deputy commissioner of Killa Abdullah said in an official statement that the safe recovery of the two abducted men remains the administration's top priority. According to the statement, civil administration officials are coordinating with paramilitary forces and local police to set up checkpoints on entry and exit routes across the district, and joint search teams are conducting intelligence-based operations to locate the hostages and the suspects.

Political and tribal leaders in Balochistan condemned the firing and called for stronger protection for local communities. Civil society representatives said more intelligence gathering was needed to stop armed groups from moving between districts and ambushing people.

Local business associations urged the authorities to resolve the security situation quickly, saying the highway closure was costing traders. Police officers are maintaining contact with tribal elders to keep the protest from escalating.

Police investigators were recording statements from eyewitnesses and examining forensic material collected from the scene, Daily Times reported. Security forces remained on alert for any disruption to law and order as the search operation expanded across the rural areas around the district.
