Canada, the United Nations Population Fund and the Aga Khan Foundation have launched initiatives worth CAD $35 million to strengthen climate resilience, restore livelihoods and improve health services in vulnerable communities in Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan.

Canada's High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tarik Ali Khan, launched the programmes during a visit to Gilgit-Baltistan on Wednesday, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported in a dispatch filed from Gilgit by its correspondent Sultan Shoaib.

APP said the money covers three areas of work: climate resilience, livelihood restoration and healthcare. The three partners named in the announcement are the Canadian government, UNFPA and the Aga Khan Foundation.

The dispatch as published did not say how the CAD $35 million would be divided among the three areas, how many years the programmes will run, or which districts of Gilgit-Baltistan will receive funding. It did not name the communities it describes as vulnerable.

The announcement places the initiatives across Pakistan, with Gilgit-Baltistan listed among the regions to be covered. The launch itself took place in Gilgit-Baltistan during the High Commissioner's visit.

APP's report was dated November 5 and filed from Gilgit.
