Fake court fee tickets have been used in courts in Punjab in a case that has allegedly cost the national exchequer Rs1.5 billion, with several people arrested, UrduPoint reported on 6 November.

The outlet gave the same figure, ڈیڑھ ارب روپے, for the value of the tickets and for the alleged loss to the exchequer, and described the matter as an exposed scandal in the province's courts.

UrduPoint said several people had been arrested over what it called the alleged scandal. Its published report named none of them, and did not say which agency made the arrests, which courts the tickets were used in, or when the alleged offences took place.

Court fee stamps are bought by parties to a case and affixed to court filings, and the money goes to the province as revenue.

No police, prosecution or court official was quoted in the report, and UrduPoint said further details would follow.

Aaj News, listed on the same file, carried a separate story about the National Accountability Bureau summoning Asad Mahmood, son of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and a former federal communications minister, over alleged irregularities in Pakistan Post Office recruitment in 2022 and 2023.

How the reports differ

UrduPoint alone carried the court fee ticket case, and its report gave no names, no agency and no date for the alleged offences. Aaj News, listed on the same file, reported a different matter altogether: NAB Rawalpindi has summoned Asad Mahmood, son of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and a former federal communications minister, over alleged irregularities in Pakistan Post Office recruitment in 2022 and 2023. Aaj News said the Establishment Division had sanctioned 3,938 posts while 4,252 people were allegedly hired.
