Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain has directed officials to complete the automation and digitalisation of the region's major hospitals in coordination with the Information Technology Department, Radio Pakistan reported.

The chief minister issued the instruction while chairing a meeting in Gilgit, the seat of the Gilgit-Baltistan government. He also ordered that all staff attachments involving general nurses and technical personnel be terminated, and that those employees be deployed at major hospitals across the region.

Officials were told to ensure the redeployed staff attend regularly. According to the state broadcaster, the chief minister linked attendance to faster service delivery and stronger hospital operations.

Radio Pakistan said Amjad Hussain reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving healthcare facilities across Gilgit-Baltistan, and presented the directives as steps towards that.

The report did not name the hospitals covered by the automation project, say how many nurses and technical staff are on attachment, give a completion date for the digitisation work, or identify the offices where those staff are currently posted. It also did not say what the redeployments will cost or when they take effect.

Two instructions came out of the same meeting: the hospital automation project, to be run with the Information Technology Department, and the movement of attached nursing and technical staff into major hospitals with attendance checks attached to it.

Gilgit-Baltistan's hospitals depend heavily on staff posted from other districts, and the chief minister's order concerns general nurses and technical personnel rather than doctors. The broadcaster's account gave no breakdown by hospital or by district.
