PIA engineer shot dead in Karachi targeted attack
Imtiaz Ahmed, 54, was buying bread near his Gulistan-i-Jauhar home when two men on a motorcycle opened fire and fled, police said.

KARACHI: A 54-year-old engineer with Pakistan International Airlines was shot dead in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Sunday afternoon in what police are treating as a suspected targeted attack.
Imtiaz Ahmed had left his home in Block 13 to buy bread when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him and rode away, Sharea Faisal SHO Anser Ahmed Butt said.
The officer said the attackers fired several shots. Three of the bullets struck a parked car nearby and one hit Ahmed, proving fatal. He was taken to a private hospital in the area, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His body was later shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination, ProPakistani reported.
Police have ruled out robbery, according to the SHO. No group had claimed responsibility for the killing and investigators had not announced a suspected motive by Monday morning.
Ahmed was originally from Lahore. Police contacted his brother, who was travelling to Karachi, and the SHO said formal proceedings to establish the motive and identify the attackers would begin after his arrival. Ahmed's wife was in Germany at the time of the shooting, visiting their daughter.
The killing took place in daylight in Block 13, a residential neighbourhood of Gulistan-i-Jauhar in Karachi's east. Dawn first reported the shooting and carried the same account from the Sharea Faisal station house officer.
Karachi police use the term targeted killing for shootings in which the victim appears to have been singled out in advance rather than caught in a robbery or a random attack. The SHO did not say what led investigators to treat Ahmed's death as a suspected targeted attack.
