Sugar mill tells KP governor fertiliser curbs hit Rabi sowing
Chashma Sugar Mills says an interior ministry SRO stops fertiliser companies despatching supplies to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as autumn and Rabi sowing proceeds.

Chashma Sugar Mills has written to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi complaining that fertiliser is not reaching farmers because supplies have been restricted, Dawn reported.
The letter, from the mill's senior director Iskander Khan, said the company's field reports showed the fertiliser industry had imposed curbs under an SRO issued by the Ministry of Interior. Under that order, according to the letter, fertiliser companies are stopped from despatching supplies to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Khan said the restriction came at a particularly critical time. Autumn and Rabi sowing is under way, and the letter describes fertiliser as an essential input at that stage of the season. The complaint concerns availability, not price.
Dawn reported the mill's account of the order but did not cite the SRO itself. The report gave no figure for the quantity of fertiliser held up, the number of farmers affected or the area left unsown. It did not say when the interior ministry issued the order or what reason the ministry gave for it.
No response from the Ministry of Interior, from fertiliser manufacturers or from the governor's office was carried in the report. According to Dawn, the governor, who is based in Peshawar, has not publicly commented on the complaint.
The complaint names two provinces at once: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where Kundi is the constitutional head, and Balochistan. Dawn reported that the mill lodged the complaint with the governor over the non-availability of fertiliser amid restricted supplies.
The report did not say whether the governor's office has taken the matter up with the interior ministry, or whether any fertiliser has moved to the two provinces since the letter was sent.
