An audit of 14 departments of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has found financial irregularities and suspicious spending of more than Rs3.58 billion, including more than Rs1.205 billion in contracts approved through procedures the auditors called questionable and non-transparent. ProPakistani reported the findings on Monday, citing the first phase of the compliance audit for fiscal year 2024-25.

The report sets out the amounts under separate heads. Excess payments on development and construction projects account for more than Rs908.1 million. More than Rs600 million was spent without authorisation. Another Rs378.5 million was lost because no action was taken against contractors who had violated the terms of their agreements.

Twenty-eight principal accounting officers were selected for scrutiny in the first phase, and 14 administrative departments were audited. According to the report, Rs117.09 million was recovered between January and December 2025, and audit officials confirmed the recovery, ProPakistani said.

Pakistan Connect also carried the audit, reporting the same Rs3.58 billion total across the 14 departments under a headline that described the findings as "PTI's endless corruption". The provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Neither report named an official or a department against a specific amount. Neither carried a response from the provincial government, the finance department or any of the 14 departments audited, and neither said whether the amounts have been disputed or referred for recovery.

The audit covers fiscal year 2024-25. The recovery figure it gives, Rs117.09 million, falls in the calendar year 2025.
