Police detain 30 teachers as Karachi march nears CM House
The All Sindh Primary Teachers Association wants transfers and postings powers handed to district officers, and hundreds marched from the Karachi Press Club.

KARACHI: Police detained at least 30 people in Karachi on Wednesday and used tear gas and batons to stop a teachers' march heading from the Karachi Press Club towards the Chief Minister House, Dawn reported.
Hundreds of teachers gathered outside the press club on the call of the All Sindh Primary Teachers Association. The march was called to present demands linked to the service structure, chiefly the delegation of powers for transfers and postings to district officers.
The crowd chanted slogans and tried to move towards the CM House. Dawn reported that when the protesters reached Fawara Chowk, police baton-charged them.
The Express Tribune reported that police fired tear gas at the protesting teachers and detained several people at the Karachi Press Club. It said the teachers were demanding restoration of the service structure, promotions and employment rights.
Dawn put the number of those held at at least 30. The Express Tribune said several had been detained and gave no figure.
The march took place on Wednesday, 4 November. Neither report carried a statement from the Sindh government, from Sindh police officers or from the association's office-bearers after the action.
The CM House in Karachi is the chief minister's official residence and office.
How the reports differ
Dawn reported that at least 30 people were detained and placed the baton charge at Fawara Chowk, on the route from the press club to the CM House. The Express Tribune said several were detained without giving a number, and reported that tear gas was fired at the Karachi Press Club itself. The Express Tribune listed promotions and employment rights among the teachers' demands alongside restoration of the service structure, while Dawn described the demands as centring on powers for transfers and postings to district officers.
